  • Kansas coyote.

I was on my way back to the combine after fixing fence when I spotted this guy in one of our pastures. He stopped to look back at me from right at 250 yards.

The rifle is a Mini 14 tactical topped with a Vortex Crossfire II 1-4X24.

The picture isn't the best as it was a few minutes past sunset when I shot him.

Another good coyote. Looks like he was eating well. Nice shooting.

He was. We've had an excellent year for rodents. Thank you.

Too early in the year for fur to be prime. Need some more cold weather. Past experience, coyotes pelts don't bring much.

We're having a rodent boom starting here in OK, too.
I've chased 2 mice off the front porch and just trapped one in my storage container!

They got REALLY bad about 5 years ago.
I set a "bucket trap" in my hen house one night.
The next morning, I had 17 rats and 24 mice in it!!!!!
            IN ONE NIGHT!
I don't like 'yotes, but right now, I wouldn't kill one on a bet! Let 'em eat rats and mice! Once they start messing with calves, chickens and pets, I go to work on them.

DO like your setup! Did it come with the AR style stock or is that an "after market" set up?
            5.56/.223 I presume?

5.56/.223 is correct. The collapsing/folding stock is is factory setup.

Good shooting Red. Nice to have a rifle handy when a target of opportunity pops up, truck gun or something you carry on a UTV or such?

Thanks Fitch. I almost always carry a rifle, AR or Mini 14, truck/tractor/combine/ATV. I happened to be driving the side by side when the coyote presented himself.
