What's a good 22 pistol for rabbit, something less than $400.

These day it's pretty hard to find anything under $400.00 with pistols. A Ruger MKIII 22/45 are fantastic and you can hit dead nuts at 50 yards like nothing to it. The new lite models allow you to install a red dot on a picatinny rail, Those are around that price I believe. If you are willing to spend the extra 100 or so, a Ruger SP101 in 8-shot .22 is an awesome choice too. Other than that, for that as a price cap you'll have to buy used.

Years ago I bought a used Browning Challenger III, which was the predecessor to the Buckmark. I got a really good buy on it and it has been a fantastic pistol for rabbits and squirrels. I mounted a 4 power scope on it and when I miss with it, it's usually my fault. Like officerdom said though, it might be tough to get a good pistol for under 400.

I'd second officerdom's suggestion, and recommend a Ruger MKIII. I've heard great things about them, and their standard modell has an MSRP of $399. I'm sure you could find one for less than that if you shop around.

Same here in central Iowa, huntfishtrap. It was at my brother's farm, which is in very southern Iowa. We could just about throw a rock from there and hit Missouri. As it is though, I looked back at my photos and this one was taken on January 25.

The Ruger Single Six has always been my go to .22 pistol. The balance and accuracy is wonderful. They are over $400 tho...

My favorite pistol over the years has been the High Standard (do they still make these?) .22 auto.


Very easy to shoot, and very accurate...A good hunting and trapping gun...!!
