You may need to take a course to obtain a license from your state or provincial governments. In our province of Ontario it is a requirement--the course covers a lot of the basics. Also gaining permission from landowners--governments for waterways or crown land----fortunately most farmers welcome trappers with open arms just abide by there wishes and you might end up with permission to hunt as well at a later date.

I would say you first need to check with your local agency to see what is and is not legal... Then you can work from that point..

Depends on where you live and what you want to trap. Since you posted in predator section I'm guessing thats what your talking about. You'll need a license. For predators like coyotes and fox You can use offset size 1 3/4 traps. you'll need some metal stakes, the traps and some lure(Scent bait) Theres a family of trappers that sell a good book for beginners. Their name is Leggart and they also sell a good lure. Good luck.
