The first deer I shot with a muzzleloader I thought was a doe, got a bit of a surprise when I went to gut “her”. Both bases had just started to develop a waxy film on them that wiped into a bloody mess on my fingers when I touched it. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d just dropped his antlers within that last hour.

For 2021,the Moultrie trail cam that sent us real time pics was invaluable for forming game plans. Opened our eyes to the true mindset of late season deer in our area.
Also, EVERCALM deer scent in the deodorant type stick. Long lasting and deer would smell it and give the "everything's cool" tail wag and come right by. Where we inadvertently made a small 30' or so diameter ring on a hillside we started finding deer beds WITHIN the ring. Says it all.
Also a takeaway is even with a popup, ANY elevation gain helps.

I haven’t heard about Evercalm in a few years, I know one guy who swore it worked but never knew anyone else who used the stuff. Guess I may have to give it a second look.
I backed off babysitting our trail cams and let The Kid run them the past couple years. I’ve been thinking about trying a cellular model up top where we stay out of as much as possible before rifle opens. With him being away next fall it’s going to really change how we go about things. Have some ideas but we’ll see.
