A longer brace lenght will be more forgiving to the first timer. Also don't get more poundage then you can handle.

I recommend that you visit your local professional archery shop. Be honest with them regarding your abilities, hunting desires, and budget. They will let you test several bows and equipment that fit your criteria and budget. Then you decide which bow you like then make the purchase. The quality of overall service and instruction is worth it!

Fit and Feel from a reputable manufacturer. I suggest going to a bow shop and discussing that you're getting into the sport of archery for hunting.

A hunting bow will be a lot lighter than a target bow, and generally more compact as well. You'll want a bow that can be drawn to your pull length and with an appropriate poundage. You might get stronger as you go so you might want to consider a bow with an adjustable poundage.
