Horse apple/Osage or Hickory works nice. I've made many bows out of Oleander in my youth. It was the easiest wood I could lay my hands on. Fishing string and Oleander bows made for some good cowboy n Indian battles in my neigborhood.

In Oklahoma and Kansas the indians used to use Bow Dark/Osage Orange/Hedge Apple or what ever else people called it to make bows and arrows

I have made my own...I used ash for the actually bow itself and then either willow or river reed for the arrows. I messed around with oak and beach for the bow but I got the best results with ash wood. good luck!
