I have been hunting in the same treestands for 15 years on private property. I leave the tree steps in the tree and inspect and replace as needed, annually. The trees are in mid Michigan and typically are two feet in diameter oaks and maples. I know I am getting older but are the treesteps growing further apart each year?

i think i remember seeing/hearing that the whole tree doesn’t grow taller, it just gets wider, at the tip of every branch it wil grow longer than wider. That’s my guess would tap a nail in a tree, measure it fr the ground and c if it is moved higher the next yr.

Trees grow from the top and they get wider. the steps are not getting taller, we are all just getting older.

Annual rings are the only change as a tree ages. Hunters' annual rings show change as well...my Levi 501's from 15 years ago are impossible to get on!
