Thunderheads, Muzzy and G5 Montecs are what I use mostly. I have killed deer with Spitfire mechanicals, but have since retired mechanicls because of uncertainty on game recovery from others who've have lost game.

I have had great success with Thunderheads but after seeing their price has once again gone up this year I may no longer endorse them on a public forum. Their popularity is only driving the price up.

I recently switched to the Rage 2-blade after seeing what a huge entrance wound it makes. I'm not entirely sold on mechanicals--I've been a skeptic, but I'm going to give them a try.

I've never tried the mechanicals but I can vouch for the Muzzy MX3 as I took my first deer with a bow with one. Ive also heard that Thunderheads work really well.

A very good fix blade in the 3 blade Muzzy. The muzzy, is super strong, and normally leaves a good blood trail.

My favorite mechanical is the 2-blade Rage. The rage makes a huge hole. Its hard to get a rage to shoot completely through. But, it has awsome shocking power.

Last year alkingI shot 2 with a Rage. My first, was a perfect broadside shot. Arrow only went in about 12 inches. But, I watched deer walk about 35 yards and drop. My second, the deer was quartering away and walking. I did not lead the deer. The arrow hit the hid leg. Deer walked about 30 yards and just stood there. I could see the luminock and the arrow in the bacl leg. After standing for 2 or 3 minutes deer went down. Bleed out in about 5 minutes. Even after a poor shot, this broadhead left a huge hole.

Last year I also shot a turkey with a 2 blade rage.

I think fixed blades are the way to go. Cut on contacts get the best penatration. Chisel points will do a number on bone. A broadhead that makes a huge wound channel for bleed out. A broadhead that flies true to a field point. Many good manufacturers making fantastic broadheads. Find one that hits the above criteria and flies good for you. Remember keep em sharp and put em in the boiler room!

I've used Muzzys, G5 and Rage. All 3 put venison in my freezer. The Rage however had a large entry but a small exit. The Muzzy, Bone Crushing! The G5, clean pass through. My buddy uses Rage for the size of the whole it leaves and they shoot the same as a feild point as far as tuning the bow. However, my Muzzy's are shooting in the same group as my field points this year. You have to broadhead tune your bow!!

Personally, I've had much trouble getting the Rage 3-blades to fly straight. I use Montec G5s and they fly straight and true every time. Your mileage may vary.

I posted this on another ? so forgive if you read it: Any well placed broad head will do the trick and I personally killed a nice big bodied 9 pointer from about 30 yards complete pass through and in the dirt! Now, why use a mechanical? they shoot exactly like field points where as OFTEN (not always) to shoot fixed broad heads acccurately your ow must will need to be " broadhead tuned". I can shoot very accurately out to 40 yards through practice and I want to practie with field points and feel confident in my shot in the field. Others feel otherwise. I am satisfied with my results three weeks ago.

Finding the right broadhead is like women finding the right pair of shoes. It depends on your taste. I've used quite a few: Slick Tricks, Muzzy 3 and 4 blade, Rage 3 blade, Montecs, and some Walmart Cheapies(for squirrels mostly).
I carry 3 arrows with Rage 3-Blades, and 3 with Muzzy 3 blades on them in my quiver. I prefer the Muzzy for the pass-through, which is critical in blood tracking. The Rages fly fantastic, but don't pass all the way through, and I've lost 2 deer with my arrow still in them somewhere.
When Rages enter, they create a huge hole, but if they don't pass all the way through, and the arrow stays in the deer, it actually clots up pretty quick and you may have a disappearing blood trail (Happened once to me). If I adjust my sight for Muzzy's, I am accurate enough to hit an apple 5/6 times at 50 yards with them. Rages hit every time.
                        It's all about your preferences.
Personally, I'd just go buy a pack of Muzzy 3-blades.
                        -Brandon

I started using swhacker broadheads this year after learning of their giant wound openings. Shot a hog last weekend right behind the shoulder, ran 30 yards and dropped. Love the product

I like NAP Scorpions. I shot one doe this weekend and it walked, not ran, 10 steps, and fell over. atypical, admittedly, but it happened.
