  • I don't understand ??

I am looking at reloading my .340WbyMag. The box of Berger 200gr X bullets (sealed box) says cal. 338, diam. .338. The bullets in the box measure .336". The expander button on my RCBS measures .336". A fired case mouth measures .338" What the heck is going on. A mouth expanded to .336" will not have enough bullet hold on a .336 bullet, especially without a cannelure. Anybody know what is going on ??

You can put a slight crimp on even straight bullets. Contact Berger for their suggestion.

Use a smaller expander ball or turn yours down with a whet stone and a drill motor.
You only need to turn .001" or .002" off the expander ball.
Try removing the expander ball all together. Replace the .338" ball with a .308" or .277" so your decapping pin still works.

I think I will talk to Barnes first. Thing is, the box (sealed when I got it) says 338cal., 338dia. I think the bullets may be off spec or loaded in the wrong box.

Talked to Barnes today and they want them back they never made a .336 diam bullet. They are replacing with TSX bullets.
