I'm looking at going on an exotic ram hunt in a few weeks at a game ranch a few hours away. I know that it isn't real hunting but it sure is fun and it's a great way to put meat on the table and keeps me out in the woods in the off season. I also hunt all different species of animals on public ground with no fences. Does hunting on a game ranch make me a bad hunter? whats your opinion?

I don’t know that anyone should judge another person’s choices, as long as legality isn’t in question. I can’t say that I would enjoy that type of hunt, but if you do, it doesn’t make your decision any less appropriate. It is what it is, but then you aren’t calling it anything else. Besides, if you are going to buy meat, somebody has to kill it.

No. Just dont put hunting on a game ranch in the same category as free range hunting. As long as you tell everyone how you got it(and why - food). The only problem I have with high fence hunters is that they act like they killed a free ranging animal(and score it same way etc).

Give it a try. It's just a different hunt. Fenced hunts can vary in difficulty but they are still fenced hunts. I've been on a couple and in a way it is alot more relaxing and low key because you know what you are getting for your dollar. I don't know how you can say you wouldn't enjoy something until you have tried it.

Don't worry about what anyone else thinks if you have fun hunting this way go for it. Most African hunts are now conducted behind high fences on ranches and a lot hunters enjoy themselves on these hunts.

I am with Treestand on this. If you want to spend your money hunting animals that can't get away go for it. I personally wouldn't go on one of those hunts if it was free. Just my opinion...

Nope, go for it. As long as you don't try to pass off any trophies you harvest as "free range", or "fair chase", then I absolutely don't have a problem with high-fence hunting, especially when it's for exotic game that you'll probably never get to hunt any other way.
The way I see it; yes, it's not the same as normal, free range hunting, but they're still wild animals, and they still don't want you to shoot them! So they will run away if given a chance - it's not like you can walk up to them and pop 'em.

If either answer is YES, then you will already know the answer...!!

Sounds more like butchering livestock to me.The choice to hunt any game is each persons own ethical question, do I or don't I? For me the answer is no.I find no thrill in hunting fenced half tame animals use to being fed like cows awaiting slaughter,but some hunters see nothing wrong with shooting ducks on the water, quail on the ground and dove off a power line all legal the question is were do you draw the line between hunter and Butcher?
