How can I tell a real trophy elk at long range? Is there a way to estimate antler size? Guys tell me not to shoot the first bull I see in my hunting district. This will be my first bull so any 6 x 6 is going to look huge to me.

Dear lonewolfhunter,
Every elk you see in the woods will look like a booner. Just judge the eye guards and the back scratchers. If he lays his head back to bugle and the last points are touching his back, you best be pullin the trigger. Many shooter bulls though have eyeguards that are about 10+ inches. if they are that big, take him. Good luck!!!
