    With claw marks 6 feet off the ground it is probably a young bear not more than a 5 footer.
    I did not know that about track width bigjake, thanks for the tip.

    If its leaving territorial claw marks 6 feet up it worth looking for other sign like Looking for tracks nearby.A general body size gauge is for every 1" of track width is equal to 1 foot in body lenght.

    When bears claw up trees, how can you tell how big it is. Me and my dad have a resident bear and we want to know how old/ big he/she is. It clawed up a tree about 6ft up. It just started living here this year,so we guess its a young one. Are we right?
