Hey I am 13, I am going on a hog hunt at the end of this year. I have shot this gun with no problems but tell me will a .223 do

FloridaHunter: I hunt hog, year-round in FL. The .223 is not a hog*gun! Yes it can work? A 30-30,.35Rem,44Mag. here are some lite re-coil caliber's start him off right. I have sean HOG'S hit with an 06*180gr run~off with his lung's hanging out and makeit to the swamp! Good Hunting!

I personally prefer a larger caliber for hogs. Of course I don't want to have them go very far after I shoot one. Must be getting a little lazy in my old age.

Cgull i am taking my bow on the trip but am going to use the .223 on most days and some days i will bring bow i am more comfortable bowhunting n e way

With a 55 grain soft point it shouldn't be a problem. Your best shot will be a lung shot just behind the front leg and try to avoid a shoulder shot.

I like just a bit more caliber, but you can drop a pig with the 223 placed in the double lung/heart. Why not bow hunt the pigs, lot more fun!!

It depends on the range and size of the hog you wish to shoot, in my opinion a .223 is more than enough for most hogs especially if its a gun you're comfortable with. I've hunted hogs my entire life and many people I know only use .22 mags, So if you're a good shot with the .223 it should get the job done, a larger bullet is useless if it doesn't hit its mark!
