just had a good conversation with a young female hunter from cali yeah imagine that anyways if your planning to hunt them I would check you state laws she was telling me that you can only shoot forked horned deer & up so no skin heads. Dont take my word for it though just what I was told. oh yeah I think the comment above covered the deer species in your area.

There are no Coue's deer in Northern California. Most of what you will run across are blacktail deer, although you are close enough to mule deer area where you might see some cross bred deer. Generally however, in Amadore County you're hunting blacktail.
