You can't go wrong with Remington Core Lokt or Winchester Silvertip. But if we're talking the BEST, look no farther than Barnes TSX. The Winchester E-Tip looks pretty sweet too or the Hornady GMX and Federal Vital-Shok lines. Since the last four bullets I mentioned are Copper rounds, how about the Winchester Super X? You can choose between new technology or old favorites. The possibilities with ammo today are endless. There really isn't a bullet out there that can be called the definite, all around best.

Ditto on the 180 gr Winchester Silvertip or Remington Lokt. I have found mushroomed Silvertips under the hide on the opposite side of point of entry on elk and caribou. The bullets did their job expending their energy thru the body with the elasticity of the hide being just enough to stop exiting. Sometimes the bullet will cause the hide to react like a trampoline surface and the bullet will skitter away from its intended point of exit between the flash and hide before losing its momentum. I hope this is of interest to you.

Well, you can spend as little as $20 for Core Lokt's and $50 or more for the premium rounds. Ammo is sort of like golf balls. Will they all do the job? Most likely. Well some perform better than others? Sure. Are some way over priced and hoping that a fancy name will catch your attention? You bet. Core Lokt's have been around form many many years and at one time were considered the "premium round" for elk. Guess what, they still are deadly on elk. For my money I'll buy 2-3 boxes of Core Lokt's for the price of the fancy dancy premium rounds and kill those elk just as I've always have.
