The only thing I've read about scopes for shotguns is that they should be one power, and have a dot.
I think the idea of the dot would help shooters who tend to shoot over, as I often do.

Wide angle ,fixed low power ,4x is plenty magnification, even sabot in a rifled shotgun barrel are short range .Red dot aim points are great in heavy cover and low light conditions. I,ve shot with scopes that did a good job using post,or crosshairs,it's what ever suits your preference.A lot of different brands to choose from, all the gun sales places will help you out.

Leupold makes a "shotgun specific" scope.
I'm not certain of all the techno-info, but something about the difference in vibrations between a shotgun and rifle that makes a shotgun specific scope desirable.

Can't go wrong with "Leep-A-Long"! LOL! (Leupold)

            My Leupold VX-1's are 1-4x20 shotgun/muzzleloader scopes.
Heavy duplex reticle for recoil, and 75 yard parallax setting.
One on my muzzleloader, the other on a 1895g (45-70)

Get a shotgun scope. Atleast a bushnell. The elcheapo at Walmart will not last. Used a fixed 4x32 bushnell for years with no problems. Lots of guys like red dots. Lighter fluid for cleaning screw holes and screws are your friend and blue lock tight. A 12 gauge slug will loosen eveything on scope rail and mount. In surprisingly few shots. Hard learned lesson. Good luck come back if you have more question. Oh also don't buy cheap rings you will regret it.

My answer is for shooters who use a shotgun with bird shot for small game, and not rifled slugs for big game.

I am surprised that an experienced big game hunter would own a shotgun dedicated to use with rifled slugs.

This is not dedicated. The barrel is smooth and uses extended chokes, one rifled choke for deer and one extra full for turkey. There is a turkey scene on the side and a deer scene on the other.

I suppose that would be necessary if you ever get to hunt in a shotgun-only county.

I have hunted shotgun zones for deer for years. Only recently did Ohio and N.Y. go rifle. This shotgun shoots a clover leaf for the first few shots, Winchester Supreme 3" sabots. I will put up a picture of a 100yd target, rapid fire - as fast as I could work the action - OUCH, won't do that again. Jim
