So I am trying to learn to shoot with both eyes open. I shoot left handed and have always closed my right eye when a shooting rifle of shotgun. When ever I look down a shotgun barrel I see two beads. I think I may be co eye dominant. Any suggestions on how to shoot with both eyes open?

I think the only thing you can do uis practice and as time passes your left eye will start doing the work. It's an aquired skill in my opinion. On the other hand are you sure you are left eye dominant?

If I may ask, why do you want to shoot with both eyes open? All of the pro shooters I've ever seen shoot with one eye open, so I would think that's the best way.

First off Mark, just becuase you shoot left handed doesn't mean your left eye dominant. Put your hands together in a diamond and look at a fixed object through the diamond with both eyes about 20 feet away. Close one eye; whichever eye still sees the fixed object without moving your hands is the dominant eye. Also, train your eye first before you try shooting with both eyes completely open. Try partitially opening the other eye and work your way up. Also don't be focusing so much on your bead but on your target; that may cause confusion in your eyes and cross them some making you see two. If you start to get heachaches, it's ok to hang it up. Not everyone can shoot with both eyes open and that's completely ok!!

Huntfish: It's important to shoot in a relaxed state. If you squint one eye, it causes stress in the other.
Mark: Try putting a piece of thin cardboard (from a box of ammo or something) behind the right lens of your shooting glasses.

I've always shot with both eyes open with reasonable success, even with a scope. With a shotgun, I see two beads, but one is much more prominent, and the prominent bead is always dead on target, so I'd suggest choosing either the left or right bead and shooting with that bead on target, and if the chosen bead is wrong, switch beads. Sorry for the wordiness.

Although,I disagree with hunt,fish ,trap on top shooters using one eye. The most logical reason for shooting with both eyes open is better depth perception .On the other hand if your performance using one eye suits you best,why change now?THRU my own experience I watched a champion skeet shooter that lost his dominant eye in an accident. The following year he was a formidable opponet ,but comming up short in the finals.The next year he was champion again,so I still believe using both eyes are best,but there is exceptions.
