I have never used buckshot before and was wondering if i would use a field barrel or a smooth bore slug barrel? Any input?

    Hi...

Right...smooth bore only for buckshot. As for what choke to use...at what distance might you be shooting?

The closer the range, the more open the bore.

I heard that shooting buckshot through a rifled barrel will really lead-up your lanes and grooves. Also, shooting a sabot slug through a smooth bore will be terrible results. A slug can shoot through a smooth bore at a good distance but not like a rifled barrel; I would not suggest shooting a slug through anything choked more than modified. Hope this covered a good catch-all.

    -HFT and John covered it.
-Just one more thing to add: Make sure buckshot is legal to use where you live for whatever you plan on doing.

John obviously knows more about it than me, but I would add that if you're using very large buckshot you shouldn't choke it too much, or it'll scatter the group.

You should shoot buckshot through a smooth--not rifled--bore. You can choke the barrel down as with regular shot and can even use a rifled choke tube. But don't shoot buckshot, or any shot for that matter, through a rifled slug barrel. The results will disappoint you.
