A friend of mine said he could shoot 5 shells through his Remington 1100 faster than I could run 5 shells through my pump 12 gauge, which is faster?

if you have a winchester model 12 and practice with it you got him beat.

Like 6phunter said it depends who has the more experience with their weapon. Either weapon could be shot fast, just depends whos on the trigger.

I would be willing to say that in a contest between two people of the same skill level that the 1100 would most likely win.

Just shooting 5 shots the 1100 will win - putting all 5 shots on a target and either one could win.

Unless the auto jams; it will win every time.

having spent many hours on the skeet range trying to master doubles with both pump and semi-auto, i would have to say that for accurate fire, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two. providing,of course, that a skilled gunner mans both guns. for sheer volume of fire, however the 1100 would win. no less an authority than col. jeff cooper always maintained that a bolt action rifle in the hands of a skilled rifleman could place accurate fire just as quickly as a man with a semi-auto. of course, skilled riflemen are very few and far between these days. col jeff was certainly one of the best.

just so you know, the model 12 doesn;t require the trigger to be released after each shot, just hold the trigger and jack them through.THE 1100 MUST BE RELEASED AFTER EACH ROUND. THE HAND IS QUICKER THAN THE EYE, and so is the MODEL 12 .

I think most here are correct. Barring a jam a semi is faster but for accuracy they are about the same. In military a sniper can use bolt or semi but if you just want to suppress then semi or auto is better.

My question is, "Does it really matter?"
