I would go with a remington 11-87. I have never had any trouble with jamming and it shoulders very nicely. Another bonus is that I find it very easy to clean both at home and in field. Another bonus is that it also makes for a great turkey hunting gun. I will be hitting the fields this coming honker season as will be 5 of the 7 guys i hunt with. The other two are using remington 870.

Mossberg is pretty inexpensive as well as stoeger, compared to other companies. A lot of people scoff at those brands but like every other shotgun out there they bring birds down. I prefer my SxS spartan for duck hunting, I find I spend less in shells that way. But consider buying used (though there is some risk there if you don't get it from a dealer), and you could end up with a very nice benelli, or browning in some cases. You really can't go wrong as long as you take a little time to research and look around for a deal somewhere, especially with the season so close now.

I would say check out Stoeger, they make some good "budget" guns, and they have a reputation for being exceptionally durable. Also, as far as I'm concerned autos are overrated, pumps can usually do anything an auto can for 2/3 the price, while being more durable besides. and if you're looking at pumps, there aren't any better for the price than the Remington 870.

by fitch270It's looking like the ammo situation may be with us for awhile. I'd thought about picking up an adult style pellet rifle a few years ago but put the idea...
