How important is a good cheek weld while shooting a rifle? I'm primarily a shot gunner looking to buy a rifle.I have been trying a number of different rifles for fit and find that none of them give me the same cheek weld while looking through a scope that i get when shouldering my shotguns. This is true even with rifles that have Monte Carlo Combs. I plan on using a rifle for hunting but I expect to spend more of the time shooting at the range.

that just depends if you are shooting with a scope or open sites with a scope it dosent matter but open sights in matters a lot

Consistency is the key to shooting accurately. Thus a good check weld not only helps you stabilize, it also helps with shot to shot accuracy because you're holding the rifle the same every time (hopefully).

Aaron, where do you come up with these answers??? A good shooting hold is important no matter what sighting system.

Cheek weld is essential to precise and accurate shooting. You need to consistently have the same site picture everytime. Did you know the human eye can detect differences alignment differences as small as .001", that much of a difference might not seem like a lot but it plays out a lot at long range targets.

It's very important to get a rifle that fits you, if it's not comfortable there are rifles with adjustable combs or you may want to consider getting a comb insert / add-on
