I traded a Glock 27 and a couple Benjamins for a 2008 manufacture, JM stamped Marlin 1894 chambered for 44 mag. The wood shows signs of use, but not abuse.

My 1895G is a JM stamped 2008 gun as well, your serial # should start with 92xxx... Thing is Remington bought out Marlin late Dec ‘07 and took over production in January of ‘08 so technically both of ours are Remlins. I’m not sure at what point management started messing with the manufacturing process, I’ve had zero issues with mine so maybe it was put together before things went sideways.
I bought mine in 2008 and followed the Marlin Owners forum for some time afterwards. Wasn’t a happy bunch there for the most part but I learned a lot about Marlins in general. JM leverguns are bringing a premium right now, chances are good it will hold value pretty well long term.Comment

I made it out this afternoon before chores and ran a magazine through it. It cycles smoothly and shoots good.

I chose the 3mm option because I squirrel hunt with mine. Would think it better for a rifle as well but to each their own. I can quick change uppers on my mk4's so I'm looking at getting another upper with a regular taper to wear holstered on hip.Originally posted by PigHunter

Looks like a reflex dot sight, not a holographic. I have a couple 2 moa models, one on my Buckmark target.
On the Marlin...........got one in 2008, 44 mag. It liked the Hornady Custom 240gr ammo. Sub 2" at 100 yards, w a 1-5X.
I did work the lever a zillion times over a weekend to help smooth out the trigger pull.
Sold it after a yr. Our regs changed to where a trimmed .35 rem meet the PCR spec so I didn't need a .44 mag.
Nice rifle, just never got into levers, and with the Marlin woes, sold it and broke even (good enough for me).
Do think scoped they lose their looks and handiness. A small reflex while not traditional would keep the feeling of the rifle mucho bettero.
Plus a reflex low means you can use the stock without need of a cheekriser.

CD2: you are right they are different and I do have reflexes. People havie been using the terms interchangeably (incorrectly) around here so long I've just gotten used to doing it too. My badComment

I would consider a Leupold 2.5 fixed, mounted as low as you could get it. Back in the early days, I had a scope mounted on a 30-30 as my only CF rifle, and cheek weld was "challenging," to say the least.Comment

My 1895G with a Leupold VX-1 1-4x20 sitting in a Leupold standard 1 piece base with low rings. This scope is the shotgun version with a heavy duplex and 75 yard parallax setting. Works well in thick cover but not a finesse rig.
