For close quarters work on a vermin problem, I used some .22 bird shot. I've never used them in a revolver before, so , I was surprised to discover the brass cracked and busted all the way down to the base. Is this normal or not, as the brass is just crimped shut on the end. While I don't remember when it was bought, I don't believe it is overly old.

I have only shot a few a long time ago and i do not remember the case splitting.
If you were shooting .22lr bird shot, you did not accidentally shoot it in a .22mag?

No, that is not normal! I've shot both kinds - crimped and plastic-tipped - from a revolver before, and I've never seen that. If the gun seems to be in proper working condition, I would highly discourage you from shooting any more of that ammo.

I've never had that happen but I never shot any in a revolver. I wouldn't use them.

Try the same rounds in a different weapon, then you will know if it's the ammo or the revolver.THEN try different ammo in the revolver. After that it shouldn't be to hard to figure out what to do next.
