Gunsmithing question: Fiance's Savage 340 30-30 bolt action, when you seat the mag it seems that when you want to chamber a round, the bolt isn't catching a bullet and when it does it is not putting the round in the chamber, it's misfeeding and jamming the bullet tip off the top of the crown. This rifle does not have a feeding ramp which I think is crazy but how can I solve this problem?

Never owned a 340, but to me it sounds like a problem with the clip. Here's a couple ideas..
-Will LEVERution ammo by Hornady fit in the clip? They have a pointed tip so maybe that would work.
-Make sure the top of the magazine has not been bent, and make sure the spring is still good.

It sounds like the top of the magazine has opened a bit. try adjusting the top front of the mag a little closer together. very little adjustment should do it.

I am no gunsmith, but I would just suggest that you make sure it's clean/lubed properly. I have occasional feeding/ejecting problems with my Savage .22, and a thorough cleaning and oiling always takes care of it.

Check the claw extractor and ejection pin in the bolt. The claw extractor could have lost its tension over the years and/or the claw can be worn thus not holding the cartridge properly. Also, the ejection pin could be stiff and not moving freely in and out resulting in cocking the cartridge.
These two issues can be causing your "misfeeding and jamming the bullet tip off the top of the crown."
