I've acquired several firearms recently, including a really nice Browning A5 12 gauge Magnum 30" ventilated ribbed barrel. The metal is 99% with a couple of small safe marks on the stock. It was made in 1972 and is one of the cleanest older A5's I've seen. Two questions. It's been in the safe and not fired since 1974 when the original owner passed away. Other than a thorough cleaning before shooting it, is there anything else I should do to it? Second, I've seen the selling price of A5's all over the board from $300 to over $2K. This is an extremely nice looking 42 year old A5. Any idea absent photos what its resale value is? Thanks

With the disclaimer that I'm no expert on the resale value of firearms in mind, I would say that if it is indeed in as good a condition as you say, then it should be toward the upper end of the price range that you stated. That range might be a tad high though, since a couple of years ago I saw an A5 about 30 years old in New-in-Box condition with a price tag of $1500

I'VE never been fond of BROWNING SHOTGUNS because of the recoil in the barrel extracting spent rounds,other people swear by them as the finest.The gun is worth what ever you'll take for it,or how much someone is willing to spend.Your best bet is to go to a few gun shows and get a feel for what similar guns are being priced .

If the condition is as good as you say it is then $1500+ would not be out of the question. I would say $1000-1500 would be a more conservative price though. Unless you need money I would hold onto it. Beautiful gun that should go up in value.

Alot of people will look at whether it was made in Belgium or not. Those are held a little higher

Love my Belgian A-5. Other than a good cleaning/ inspection, after that many years in storage, the spring may have set quite a bit. Also, double check the position and condition of the friction pieces. If in doubt replace them. Should be able to get those parts pretty cheap from brownells, midway.
