Was using my savage 17 hmr caliber bolt action and had a few fired cartridges that didnt eject. Had to stop and use a knife to pry the case out. Then the same thing happened with a new marlin bolt action 22. i was thinking maybe i am not putting the bolt all the way down or could it be cheap brass on the ammo. both times it was remington ammo. talked to a few people about this and nobody has ever heard of it. appreciate any thoughts.

Im sorry i dont have a answer but my marlin model 80 .22lr that i got from grandpa is doint the same thing but it would work when they werent shot but i didnt have to pry it out just use my finger so i still could make quick follow up shots it must be more powder in the bullets or mabey try loading it slower into the chamber or cocking the bolt back slower or mabey load them in to the magazine differently if possible.

Had the same problem with my 17 hmr this past summer. Make sure you oil up and clean your bolt face and chamber. I have had it happen to a couple different brands of ammo but I think the bolt face gets a little dirty with brass shavings and powder over time.

Had my Marlin Bolt 22mag do this same thing with some Remington ammo. Cleaned it up and it did the same thing. Changed ammo and worked fine.

I had issues with Remington ammo before where factory loads were either cracking or buldging so to cause them not to extract. I switched to Federal, never had a problem since. Just in case, take a brush to your feeding ramp though and real clean under the extractor.

I'm going to blame ammo or more to the fact Remington. Remingtons quality control or lack thereof has gone to the dumps.The newer 870's which I have are plagued with jambing issues their ammo isn't much different from my experience and apperently others also. I would stay away from everything Remington until they get their shtuff together. Maybe they need to take the money they use for Bret Favre and other marketing business and put it towards tooling and quality control.

Yeah, I've had that problem a few times with both my Savage .22 LR and my Marlin .22 Mag, and each time a thorough cleaning and lubricating of the chamber and breech area fixed it. It can also happen if you are easing the bolt back slowly, instead of snapping it back crisply, especially if the gun's a bit dirty. So I would try cleaning it and giving it some oil, and see if that doesn't do the trick.

Sometimes if i ease the bolt forward instead of quickly closing it the ammo wont eject. Also try snapping the bolt back when ejecting. Cleaning is also a good idea

Yes, clean and oil the chamber, but then be sure to thoroughly dry it. It may not matter as much on a 22, but an oily chamber can cause problems with chamber pressure.

Clean behind the ejecter clips on the bolt. If there is any garbage(powder residue)behind the clips that grasp the shell (the crap left between the clip and the bolt), the clips will not engage fully on the shell casing, and just slide over the cartridges rim during the extraction cycle and leave the casing in the chamber. Refer to the manufacturers instructions in cleaning these. I know Marlin and Ruger 22 lr semi's are notorious for doing this after a thousand rounds or less. It is not the brand of bullet you are using as stated by these previous commenters, but the rifle's performance after being used with out cleaning. Most of these peoples comments are just stupid.
