I recently purchased a CZ 455 American .17 and will be using it for target, small game & plinking.Would apprec.suggestions on scopes that will get the most out of this rifle and the rings needed. Is one with AO necessary on the scope. Some friends mentioned 4x12x40

If I was buying a scope for the gun you bought I would go with the 3x12x40(Or 3-9 depending on how far I was planning on shooting). I do not think an adjustable objective would be needed though.

I would recommend that you look at at a 3-10X40 or a 3-12X40, and it should be a model with Mil-Dots or Tactical-Hashes, if you plan on doing longer-range shooting.
If you are on a budget, then BSA, Simmons, and Tasco all make some good, fairly cheap scopes with those specs, The BSA Sweet 17 in particular might be a good choice, since it has adjustments optimized for 17HMR ammo.
If cost isn't a problem, then Leopold and Nikon are very good options.
      Hope this helps.
