I am thinking of getting a .204 Ruger rifle (OL sexiest cartridges) but everyone is telling me to pick up a .22/250 for varmint. Help me decide which one and why please!

Personally I would get a .223 as you have a large ammo selection, both premium varmint and low cost practice and surplus ammo.
The .22-250 will only provide an edge over the .223 on the very long shots (greater than 300 or 400 yards), but you could stalk closer and make the hunt more enjoyable.
