Im 16 years old and have been hunting for a while now, im looking at getting my first rifle, i know i want a .308 and the guns ive narrowed it down to are the Thompson Center Venture and the Savage Axis. The venture seems like a better gun overall but the Axis is a little more wallet freindly. My dad has a remington 742 woodsmaster semi auto 30/06 but i like bolt actions better, what do you think?

I say go with the TC Venture. It is a gun that will last your entire lifetime, so the extra cost will be worth it. Also .308 is a great caliber.

You cannot go wrong with the .308
Excellent, versatile caliber with plenty of different types and sizes of ammunition to fit your needs! You're in good hands!

I like em both. nothing wrong with the Savage. I would also go with the bolt action. To me they are a little more accurate, and chances are if you miss that first shot, bye bye deer.

Like the other guys said the 308 is great, remember you get what you pay for, I own a Savage and have no problems at all with it, but I don't know about the Axis, I do know TC is a good company with great products.

I would definatly not go with a semi auto. Out of those two i would say the T/C would be my choice. However, you might wanna take a peek at a Ruger M77 MarkII. I have one in .308 and i love it.

I've had a couple of different Savage rifles and have been well pleased with them. Good value, good rifle.

Either of these rifles will do a good job for you. The 308 is a good all round caliber to start with.

                    Hi...

I've hunted deer with a Savage lever action .308 with very good results. One of my favorite weapons.
