If you have shot a 30-06 before then it sounds good. If you have not I would suggest you try one out and see if the recoil is manageable for you.

Your weight does not make a difference if the gun does not fit you or if you develope a trigger jerk after getting the recoil a few times. every gun has a different recoil, just because you shot a 30-06 before does not mean this gun will kick the same. shoot it a few times before you buy it if that is possible.

The savage/stevens company has come a long way the axis is a newer model and should give you a life time of shooting. I have several savage rifles and Im very pleased with the preformance in the field and from the bench. The 30-06 caliber is a surefire it has been around a long time so match the bullet with the game you plane to hunt and it will not disappoint you.

Go for it----Savage is an excellent manufacturer with a good reputation of backing up its products and the .30-06 is probably the most versatile cartridge out there. Good luck to you.

As long as the recoil doesn't bother you, it should be fine.
