I have several handguns, a Glock 17 9mm and a Buckmark in .22 caliber. I would like to buy a larger handgun and have an opportunity to purchase a Smith and Wesson Model 686 in .357 (4 inch barrel). The current owner said the guns is about 10 years old and didn't think he shot more than a 100 rounds through it. He wants $600 for it including the original box and documents. Does this sound like a reasonable deal and does this revolver have a good reputation? Thanks

S&W 686 is an excellant handgun, as well as the blued 586 model. $600 is probably not out of the question, if it is as you describe, but might be a little high in my neck of the woods. A sweet trigger pull would sweeten the deal.

The 686 is a tough weapon. I've seen several of these with tens of thousands of rounds through them and still function perfectly. (These were used in an agency.) And very accurate. 600 isn't a bad price if it's in very good shape. It's not a great price but not bad.

You simply cannot go wrong with a solid Smith & Wesson revolver. The 686 is a phenomenal model and as the others have mentioned - it is nothing short of being tough as nails.

If it is in great shape as you describe, I would say that $600.00 is a fair price depending upon the overall condition of the gun.

I am also considering a new Taurus Tracker in .357 for about $100 less. What are you're thoughts about that gun in comparison to the S&W?

          Thanks,
