Hmm in this price range you could buy a new Mossberg patriot or possibly a Ruger American or T/C Compass. All of which I think will have a higher value and quality than anything owned by "freedom group".

The other thing as mentioned is that you could get a really good used rifle in that range if you find a good gun show or use gunbroker.com

I looked at the 770 and I didn't like it, the bolt seemed to catch quite abit. The Savage is a good choice, one other gun you might wat to look at is the Marlin XL-7. I bought one the same day I looked at the 770, and I couldn't be happier with it. It's resonablely priced around $300.

I have a friend that has a Remington model 770 and he hates it, its in the .270 cal. and the clip is always falling out, and not to mention it jams a lot too. I would go with the savage or i would get the Remington model 700

You could go to gunbroker if you have and FFL or know someone with an FFL to have the gun shipped to. I have 4 Savage rifles in various calibers and love each and every one of them. Once you use an accutrigger you will think you need one on every rifle you own. I've shot a 770 and they are good guns but for the price you're better off with a savage.

As far as I’m concerned you can’t go wrong with either of these rifles. My first rifle was a Savage model 110E (Savage’s early economy line), while it’s not much to look at I have never had a problem with it mechanically and it’s impressively accurate. I haven’t been around the Remington model 770 but I do know no one makes a better rifle than Remington and they stand behind their products (so does Savage). I would go to your local gun shop and bring each model to your eye and decide for yourself which one is the most comfortable to you. If I had one gripe about my old Savage it’s the stock, an inletted baseball bat may be an improvement in stock design. Don’t let me influence you there though, from what I have heard the new Savages are pretty ergonomically friendly. Whichever rifle package you’re the most comfortable with will be the one that performs the best for you.

I am a hunter on a budget and was looking into purchasing a new rifle for moose and deer hunting this fall. I am looking into either the Remington Model 770 or the Savage 111FCXP3 Prior to purchasing I want to get a few opinions about the rifles. Does anyone have an opinion about these rifles, either good or bad? Thank you.
