i live in south eastern oklahoma & in the last few years there have been a lot of bear & mountain lion sightings in this area, personaly im out in the mountains & rough country & have been since i could walk, & ive never seen one, id rather not but if it comes down to it i normaly carry a savage model 110 in a 30-06 with 150 grain core- lok shells will they do the job, if it come down to that?

That gun should do it, But it wouldn't hurt to have a backup, in case you put your rifle down to take a leak, etc. and realize you have become the prey
I almost always carry a Smith 629 Classic Hunter when hunting or tromping around in less than urban areas. I use a shoulder holster so it won't be flapping around and beating my hip to a pulp. It's also easier to acquire a target quickly in those, shall we say, adrenaline-charged moments that you need adequate firepower,so you can go home and clean your drawers.
