The 22 will continue to thrive because its ammo is inexpensive and accurate. I can't imagine anyone not thinking of a .22 rifle as an essential in their gun collection. Shoot thousands of rounds out of a 22 barrel and it remains accurate. You can routinely pickup Winchester, Remington or Federal for less than $20 for 500 rounds. No sense buying the more expensive rounds just for target practice as such rounds are typically geared for hunting and creating killing hits.
