If i,m not mistaken Stevens is built by Savage.I have not had any contact with the Stevens, but i own a 17 hmr in a model 93r17 that is a great rifle,a $21.00 trigger job by my smith helped get it where i wanted it.Good luck in finding a good gun check the trigger it should be crisp and not to hard to squeeze off.Good Shooting

I have the Stevens model 200 in .243(with the ugly grey stock). Forget the looks, the gun is amazingly accurate. It's a simple no thrills rifle, but I doubt the deer will know if it was shot with an ugly stick or a museum quality gun. It cost around $275 and I put a Nikon Prostaff 3x9x40 scope on it. It's not my primary gun, but it's nice to toss in the truck when I go hunting. Buy one if price is a factor.
