Bought the boy a new Left handed Tikka today for his upcoming birthday. Stainless, composite (plastic) stock. 30-06, but I will load to near 30-30 levels for a while.

He does shoot around 3K 12 gauge 1145 fps load a season, so he's not too recoil shy.

I plan on putting an old 3-9 Conquest I have on it and he should be ready for November.

Very nice, you’d better get busy with the press!

As usual, be waiting on pics and a range report.

Tikka’s are quality rifles, never handled one I wasn’t impressed with. Worth every penny. Lucky kid. Know it will shoot great, function smooth but I second the photo request.

Got a chance to sight in the new deer rifle today. It's real light, and he's been shooting a 243 for the last few years.

So, did up a light load for him. 150 grain SP. Crono'd at 2560. Still snappy, but he wanted to fire a few full power loads, and agreed the lighter ones were reduced recoil for sure.

Rifle zeroed in about 4 shots, trigger typical Tikka. Shot the rest off the sticks, field positions.

He says he likes it. He doesn't know how lucky he is compared to my first rifle. (And I'll never let him forget it, either)

He may not realize it now but he will someday, that rig could serve him well for a lifetime.

          Well done Dad.
