Do manufacturers test fire firearms ?

Hmm. I recall at least my Glocks having brass from a proof shot included in the box.

Every pistol I've bought new has had a casing included. The upper for the most recent AR I assembled came with three casings.

The ones I have purchased new show signs of being fired. My S&W Model 617 had been fired on every other hole in the cylinder. My Kimber .22 LR came with a target, either 3 or 5 shot group, one ragged hole. Don't usually purchase new, the others I have bought new, I really don't remember.

My S&W 29 came with a test target. I wonder if they are proof tested. It used to be we 'thought' firearms were fired at X2 pressures.

Ruger used to do a 3 round test fire and then clean of long guns and pistols.

NO not every Hand Gun Mfg test fire their Revolvers but will test semi-autos for function.

The last new gun I bought was a Ruger sr-1911 commander. It didn’t look test fired but it was full of metal chips and shavings. It went burst mode the first two range trips I took it out. It would empty an 8 round mag on full auto. It took two can of gunscrubber to flush it out and get it to stop.

That's hard to believe Ruger would let that pass inspection??

No lie GI. I emailed Ruger and they wanted me to send the gun back. But didn’t offer a new one so I declined.

I think they have to test fire in order to put on a proof mark. I always heard it was X2 the normal pressure load.
