  • Jimbo and Others, Possible Alternative to a Mini-30? Would you shoot a Norinco SKS?

I have always thought of my Mini as a "poor man's rifle" but it really isn't so bad and I'm not a 7.62X39 guy, but if you had enough ammo to arm a small battalion and were looking for something different would you? Have you considered a Norinco SKS? Or a PolyTech rifle? They're pretty cheap, and I have heard good things about their M1A clones. Part of me says "Stamped ewwwwwwww" but another part says "Man that's so cheap, can't be all bad"

I have a sks paratrooper with plastic furniture. It satisfies my 7.62x39 needs. I don't shoot it much anymore.
I had to edit my answer because I went back to the fixed 10 rnd mag and it has been so long since I had it out I forgot I did it. Oops

Np, and no again! No SKS, no AK, no 7.62 x 39 or any other damn communist weapon! Don't even like the sound of them!

I'll take a Mini or AR over an AK or Norinco anytime.
...and I just can't get excited about the 7.62×39.
The 7.62×39 is like eating boiled potatoes.
Other than to take up space, there is no point.

I had a Chinese SKS for a few of my teen years. It was a 1.5-2 moa rifle with Russian ammo.
I traded it for an AR when I was 18 and haven't regretted it. If I get another .30 cal in that power range it would be a .300Blackout AR.

I also had a SKS when they cost only about $100. Never could get the accuracy I wanted out of it so I sold it to my brother.

I liked it and it was plenty accurate enough for me, but the novelty of it wore off about the same time I got a hankering for an AR...
