I have recently not been overly too impressed with Hoppes #9 thoroughly cleaning my guns. Either I'm becoming too picky or the quality may have changed. I just tried switching to Break-Free CLP, and am clueless as to how something can clean and lubricate whenever you have to wipe it off. Also noticed that #9 still is going to clean better than a CLP. About an hour ago, I just purchased some Hoppes Elite Gun Cleaner and Oil with T3. Does anyone have any good luck hopefully with these products? I really want to get the copper fouling off my blued revolvers and AR more than any other product has so far. Any recommendations would appreciated, or good news about my recent purchases. Thanks!

I've always used RemClean(They renamed it 40x Bore Cleaner) for copper fouling. I have used the "Elite" Hoppes, but never for copper fouling(Cleaned an 870). Made the gun run like new. Couldn't really say if it did a better job than the original #9 does.

@Charlie Elk: I have heard of J-B before, just never tried it. Glad to hear someone uses it.
@DSM: I realize that Hoppes makes a specific product for Copper fouling, but I figured a cleaner would get at least SOMETHING off. Tha's the reason I am going to try Hoppes Elite Cleaner, since it's for both copper and powder fouling.
@4ever: Is it true though that ammonia is bad for nickel plated firearms??
-All good things so far guys, thanks a lot!

I use J-B non-embedding (there is a special J-B for Stainless barrels) on an oiled patch around the brush on a bore snake. Works great, rinse with hoppes #9 which is 70% kerosene. If I have real stubborn copper deposits I use the Outers electronic system. Electroplates the copper to a stainless anode.
The secret to keeping copper to a minimum is to break in the bore, carefully lapping until it is as smooth as a baby's butt. More shots possible with less copper build up. Check barrel manufacturers web sites for break - in procedures.

Update: I have recently switched to the Hoppes Elite products. I conducted two tests, two dirty firearms (about the same shot through both). I cleaned one thoroughly with CLP, the other with Hoppes 9. After letting them sit for a half of a day, I then cleaned then with Hoppes Elite. The result was quite a few more dirty patches!! Hoppes Elite seems to be the real deal...now I just have to find out if it's the reason why my Sig was having a failure to extract issues.

by fitch270It's looking like the ammo situation may be with us for awhile. I'd thought about picking up an adult style pellet rifle a few years ago but put the idea...
