I am new to baitcasting and feel that sometimes it is a much more effective way to fish. I am wondering why baitcasting reels are designed so that the angler reels with the same hand that he uses to cast? Why is it different than the way spinning reels are designed?

Because baitcasting reels were designed by lefties bent on revenge to a right-handed world.

That said, you can buy left-handed baitcasting reels. But I use the right-handed models anyway, just to spite the lefties - "See, I can still use it just fine without whining."

Baitcasting reels are just marketed backwards. I cast both left and right, If you are right handed your right hand is your strenght hand and should be used for fighting/pullin in fish. Your weak hand should be doing the little finesse cranking of the reel. This would make a right handed baitcasting reel (as it should be called/marketed) right hand cast, left hand crank and the opposite on left hand models. It's silly to see pro fishermen thro right handed and reel right handed. what ever floats their boats I guess.
