  • 8X42 or 10x42 Binoculars

Hi Everyone just about to purchase some Binoculars for outdoor, hunting, birding etc.
Can anyone give any advice what size would be the best buy ?
Any help would be greatly apreciated

Where are you using them? Out west to spot at distance and glass for hours from one spot. How are you using them? Sitting, or walking. To pick through brush and thickets to catch a tail or antler. When are you using them? Dawn and dusk (low light) or all day comfort.
A few more details on expected use please. And welcome.

Actually the choice depends really on what is going to be your main thrust with birding. It's a personal decision. Best to try and see what you prefer.
I've been using this 10x42 Nikon Monarch 5 binocular for about 5 years now with reasonable success. One of Nikon’s most popular binoculars with BAK4 prism, fully multi-coated lens and 18.4-mm eye relief. FoV of 288ft at 1000yds. Multi-position twist-lock eyecups. Weather-resistant.

I prefer the 8x because of the lighter weight and slightly smaller dimensions.

8x if in the field, 10x if in the truck

8× gives a wider field of view and is relatively easy to hold relatively still.
10× a smaller field of view makes the target harder to locate. Higher magnification makes it harder to hold steady

Less shakes in 8x, tough to see target bullet holes at 100 yards but way better early/late light ability due to better exit pupil vs same make/grade 10x. I prefer 8x42 for the field. If I can’t see it with good resolution with my Leica, it’s too far to think about shooting. 😂
