-As long as it is in good working condition you did good with the buy.
-You can E-mail Remington your serial number (Specify it is a 870 Wingmaster) and they will tell you when it was made.

In 16 definitely, that number seems to be the market. And definitely go to Remington and figure the serial number, Remingtons numbrs are pretty straight forward. I love all wingmasters, what ya gonna use this one for?

I was thinking a quail, chukar, and possibly dove gun if NY opens up.

I agree with JM, if it's in good shape mechanically, I think you got a bargain.

All hail the 16 gauge shotgun!! Well done, you have now become a member of a select group of knowledgable shotgunners. There is nothing that a 20 guage shotgun does that a 16 guage can't do better. Sometimes it can be more difficult to find ammo for the 16 but it is worth the effort. I will have had my 16 guage Ithaca pump for 51 years on my next birthday. It remains the best birthday gift that I have ever received. Every time I take that shotgun from the gun rack I remember my excitement on that day so long ago. My folks took us out duck hunting on that same day.
That is the reason why so many of us treasure our firearms, they are touchstones to moments in our lives. Enjoy!

All of these comments are right on , espeicially Kody's. I too am an Ithaca enthusiast. Have several. I also have a couple guns that have special meanings to me ie gifts, first deer kill and etc. I first bought an Ithaca because it was the cheapest way to get a "Left Handed" shotgun (being a leftie) and wouldn't give them up after shooting. So I just keep adding to the collection. Some people collect Bells I collect Ithacas. This all started all most 50 years ago and still shooting them.
