With the new LED flashlights, headlamps and lanterns, what is the standard for measuring brightness or power of the light? I see some lights listed in number of LED's, some listed by watts, some listed by Lumens. how can you tell which one is the brightest, or casts light further?

Lumens are the brightest, and with the way flashlights burn through Lithium batteries with higher lumens, it's better to spend a little extra money to buy one that recharges.

The way I understand it, with a flashlight that has multiple small LEDs, then you look at the total number of them to determine brightness. But on lights with only one large LED you look at the Lumens.
I don't claim to be an expert on this stuff, but I think that's accurate.

Lumens is a measurement of light just as foot candles.If I'm correct 1 foot/candle = 1 lumen/ft.

On an LED lumens should be listed on the package. I prefer the old style flash lites myself.

The LED lights with lots of bulbs work great for night trailing wounded game. The bluish tint in the light seems to make the blood stand out. (the light makes the phosphorous in blood shine)
An added bonus is LED s don't seem to spook game like a regular flashlight does.
For hunting I highly recommend them however I hate LED light in my home.
The more lumens and bulbs the brighter.
I prefer disposable batteries to the built in rechargeable because it is difficult to recharge on the trail, much easier to put in fresh batteries.

As I know, there is a rule that 1 foot/candle = 1 lumen/ft. LED lamps are the brightest on the market. I have been using it in forest at night. However, before to buy my favorite lantern, I tried a lot of different models and brands, it means that i have some experience in this sphere. I have ordered this lantern on https://www.amazon.com/Vont-Hurrican...dp/B00NPLSZF8/ for 30 dollars and even didn't imagine that it would be so bright and long lasting. It is the most profitable purchase.
