    What is the real difference between a 30mm and a 1" tube when referring to a rifle scope? It seems everyone has their own answer.

    The 30mm scope tube is a TINY bit bigger(under 1/4"). Because of this it is supposed to absorb a little bit more light than the 1" tube.

      Yep, you are right on JM, don't know why some idiot gave you a -1 on that one.
      Mostly I think the 30mm is just a marketing gimmick to give them an excuse to dig deeper into your wallet!

        In general, the larger the tube diameter, the brighter the scope, as more light gets through it. Remember how bad those small narrow 22 scopes were.

            I don't know if this helps or not, but one inch is the equivalent of aprox. 25 mm.
