They sure have come a long way. Yes, they are very durable and can be used in some inclement weather conditions, but they're not infallible.

I have an older 4x Bushnell. Still works fine in all conditions, except it won't read less than 18 yards. Would definitely appreciate the better optics, though. If I had the money to spare I'd get the Leica Geovid. I am intrigued at the ones with angle compensators.

After a little experience I would definetly go with Leupold or Nikon, I personally think they are both top notch optics.

Researching Rangefinders: I’ve been agonizing for quite awhile over purchasing a range finder. I have never owned a range finder and only know a couple of people who own this type of optic. I’m pretty sure I want a Leica CRF 1200, it seems pretty simple and the readout isn’t as cluttered as some brands I have looked through in the stores. Does anyone have any experience with rangefinders of any make and model? Did they work in the rain, fog, and snow? How did they hold up and would you recommend that brand?
