I am considering purchasing a range finder for my next out of state Deer/Elk hunt in Colorado. I have hunted different parts of Colorado for years and found most of my shots to have been taken in the 250 to 400 yard range. Any further than that and I don't bother anymore. I am not as young as I used to be but I am thinking that I would like to be able to Range a deer/elk sized target, unreflective, out to about 500 yards. I have been looking at 3 different models. The Nikon Monarch Gold; the Leica CRF 800 and the Leica CRF 1200. The Leica 800 and the Nikon are pretty close in price while the Leica 1200 is starting to stretch the upper end of my budget. I was wondering if any of your experts had a recommendation?

I am no expert by no means but i prefer mil dot scopes over range finders. If you know the average size of the torso you can count the dots plug in all the information in the chart and it tells you how many clicks to adjust your scope eliminating hold over plus it is less gear to have to worry about keeping track of. A friend of mine got turned on to this during his time in the military. he has a quick slide chart and it gives him all his information in seconds. it is the same system snipers use
