well from personall experiance a bowtech tech 29 is one of the best all around bows it is 29 inches axle to axle so works well with a treestand and its fast enough for great fun on the ground mine runs about 310 fps at 65 pounds it an older model bow but its one of many from bowtech ive had and i love them and very easy on the wallet if you shop around some and with the right proshop just as good as the overpriced mathews

You have a easy choice with your price range Matthews Hoyt or PSE bows are all good you can buy the best for under a 1000 I recommend getting one with at least a 7 inch brace height. One of the advantages of buying a bow over a crossbow is you can go on weekends and shoot 3D tournaments almost anywhere and it is great training for hunting with the yardage guessing and its great fun. And its easy to meet new friends there also. Good Luck
