Good advice on repairs! Just to backtrack here, scopes don't just fall off rifles, you have to deliberately remove them. Thinking of explanations as to why this damaged scope was caste aside leads me to believe someone was pretty disgusted with it. I would see myself ripping it off to get to my open sights and make the shot. In that circumstance you might misplace it in the excitement or say 'to heck with it"! Whatever, there was a story to be told here.
