How much of an effect does cold weather have on the rut?

I think it is the photoperiod (length of day) that really gets the rut kicking. The cold weather just allows them to keep active longer without overheating. I always see better activity when it is cold.

If I may add on to the question, it has been in the high 40s, low 50s here in Iowa the last 10 days or so. Peak of the rut is coming up this week/weekend and the forecast shows a spike in temps up to 60-65 degrees. How will that rise in temps change buck movement? Will it change them?
