Im looking to get my dad a handheld gps for fishing, I need one that you can just simply drop a marker on the device on a location to fish again later and save it for a later time, Also easy to use. Anyone know any good handhelds like that ?

My wife got me a Garmin Colorado 400i last Christmas. I absolutely love it. It has the inland lakes built in and the amount of detail it shows is actually pretty incredible (considering it's a handheld) Plus, despite how technical it is... it is very easy to use and the interface is extremely intuitive, in my opinion. Press a button when you're out on the lake and voila! You have a waypoint mapped whenever the fishing gets good. You can go back afterwards and "name" the waypoint and even add detailed notes, like, "Got into a school of Walleye / used Rapala Shad, etc, etc" or something like that. Honestly, for a handheld device - I love mine.

I did a little bit of research before asking my wife for the Garmin Colorado series and based on all of the reviews I read, it did fairly well. Battery life is phenomenal if you use high-quality lithium batteries like the Energizer Ultimate Lithium "AA" batteries.

I picked up the Garmin Streep Map SD card, as well and use the handheld as a navigation system in my car.

I really love the Rhino series. GPS and Radio.5-watt transmitter lets you talk to others up to 14 miles away. It's outfitted with a 1.3"W x 1.7"H color TFT display and is waterproof to IPX7 standards. Built-in basemap and automatic routing stores up to 500 waypoints and 50 routes with turn-by-turn routing. Other features include a barometer, altimeter, electronic compass, NOAA weather radio receiver, hunt/fish calendar, sun and moon information, area calculation and a geocaching mode. Great for finding your way back to a spot. If you have another Rhino and your buddy gets in trouble and calls you, you can see exactly where he is at. Great for disasters, hunting, fishing and even taking the family on vacation. Cabelas sells them for around 500.00 I don't know how much you want to spend, but I love mine.

My father in law has the basic Garmin eTrex and it does fine. I have an older Lowrance that does the job for me. It doesn't take big bucks to load fishing spots on your GPS.

I would suggest the Garmin eTrex also. They are cheap, easy to use, and durable. I have had one for about 5 years and have never had an issue. Good Luck.
